Dental braces have come a long way – the days of “metal mouth” are over. All types of modern braces are more comfortable to wear and easier to maintain. The newest option is “invisible” braces, like Invisalign.
If you are an adult looking for an attractive and healthy smile, Invisalign might be the answer. A short consultation with Dr. Nishan will determine if Invisalign clear aligners are right for you.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment utilizes a series of removable, virtually invisible, and comfortable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. These clear, removable, aligners are custom-made to fit your mouth. They gradually move the teeth to a particular position and are changed every two weeks until the ideal placement is achieved.
Invisalign is most effective in treating mild cases of overcrowding and gaps between teeth. Invisalign would not be the best option for fixing severely overcrowded teeth.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
Unlike regular braces, these aligners can be removed at any time and are almost entirely invisible.
Not only can you eat or drink what you please, but you can also brush and floss without an issue.
Without the need for adjustments, or the presence of cutting metal, Invisalign offers both comfort and less time spent at the dentist.
Lastly, Invisalign allows you to view your treatment plan from the very beginning. You will know how your new smile will look long before treatment ends.
How does it work?
Each set of removable aligners must be worn for two weeks and only removed to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Over time, your teeth will move towards their final positions. Once every six weeks, you will visit our office to assure realignment is proceeding as planned. Treatment time averages fifteen months. The typical Invisalign user will use between 18 and 30 aligners to achieve their desired results. As these are averages, your number may vary considerably.
Why do adults choose braces?
Adults have varied reasons for selecting braces to fix their teeth. Some feel they can finally afford braces, other see the professional benefits of improving their smile, and a growing number are becoming aware of the health benefits of straight teeth. Today adults make up nearly half of orthodontic patients.
