Since Dr. Halim’s arrival on Capitol Hill in 2013, his mission has been twofold: to bring the highest quality of comprehensive dental care possible to Capitol Hill, and to give back to the community where he and his family have made a home and committed their futures. See some of the places where Dr. Halim and his practice have made a difference, locally, and also across the nation and the world.
CHAMPS is Capitol Hill’s Chamber of Commerce, and one of the first connections that Nishan and Alicia Halim made after moving to Capitol Hill and opening the practice in the summer of 2013. It was through the warm welcome by other business leaders and CHAMPS members on the Hill, including many referrals and tips for getting involved, that Dr. Halim and Alicia knew that they had found a home. They have been dedicated CHAMPS members since 2013 and the practice has sponsored events every year. In 2015, Nishan Halim DMD won the coveted Hilly Award for Best Healthcare Provider on Capitol Hill.
Capitol Hill Community Foundation
Dr. Nishan and Alicia Halim have been active contributors to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation for several years, and have especially enjoyed participating in the annual Literary Feast. In 2019, Dr. Halim was invited to join the Board of Directors and looks forward to serving in that position in the months and years ahead.
A.R.T.S. – A Reason to Smile, Senegal, Africa
“A good friend and colleague, Dr. Gunther Heyder, founded an AMAZING non-profit dental mission program called A.R.T.S.- A Reason to Smile in Senegal, Africa. The program has been dramatically successful and I am extremely proud of him! We have intermittently donated dental goods to the ARTS over the years. ” – Dr. Halim
May 2017, marked Dr. Halim’s new partnership with U.S. VETS whose mission is to serve those who have served. Dr. Halim and his staff are eager to support their efforts through donating clinical services to one restorative patient per quarter. In addition, on “Philanthropy Days” he will give all proceeds from the dedicated day’s profits to U.S. Vets. By donating treatment, Dr. Halim hopes to improve the quality of life of men and women who have given so much.
The first of the Philanthropy Days took place on May 22, 2017, in observation of Armed Forces Day.
Nishan Halim’s support for the Movember Foundation began with growing a mustache (and drumming up support) in November of 2015. You may remember!
The Movember Foundation is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale and addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. The month of November is dedicated to remembering these young men. Dr. Halim has participated for five consecutive years, growing a mustache to serve as a visible sign of support and to increase awareness.
“Why do I support Movember? Because Brad, a childhood friend of mine and a lieutenant in the Waterbury, CT, Fire Department, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Testicular Cancer. After several surgeries and two rounds of chemotherapy, Brad is now in remission. I couldn’t be happier for my friend.” -Dr. Nishan Halim
Giving Back In the Office
His desire to make a difference infiltrates the dentist office, as well. On Valentine’s Day, 2017, the staff at Nishan Halim DMD took the opportunity to celebrate its patients, children and adults alike, and show them love through mini bouquets of flowers. February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and Bette (pictured with Dr. Halim) was especially thrilled to receive surprise flowers and balloon following her appointment. Through acts such as this, Dr. Halim has won the hearts of many patients.
I enjoy the connection I build with our patients. We are like a small family here. Operating on such an intimate scale allows us to get to know our patients and build relationships with them. When I see the smile on someone’s face because they truly did enjoy their visit with us, it gives me pride in what we do together as a team.
